Year 7 Admissions

Applications to Year 7 of Yate Academy should be made through the Local Authority for the area that you live and in line with their current processes.

Visiting Yate Academy

Although we often run tours of the Academy during term-time, an appointment is not necessary, we would welcome you at anytime to have a look around the school. If you would prefer to make an appointment please call us on 01454 333560.

Please pay careful attention to the South Gloucesterhire Local Authority’s applications deadlines, usually around the end of October, as late applications cannot always be considered.

 

In-year application form

In-year applications for Years 7-11 are made directly to the Academy. Please complete the Interactive Registration form below or we can arrange a copy to be provided at reception or posted to  your address.

Transition from Woodlands Primary to Yate Academy

In the Summer term a two day visit for the children, with their primary school teachers, is arranged in school time. During these Induction Days, children undertake team building activities to help them become familiar with the Academy surroundings, meet with their Tutor Groups and establish new friendships. In the evening, parents/carers of the new intake are also able to attend a meeting at the Academy.

 

Admissions Policy for Secondary Phase (Sep 2018)

The Local Authority Officers consider applications between October and March. However, if the Academy receives more applicants than their standard intake, then the following criteria will be applied in this order:

(i) Children in Public Care

(ii) Special Educational Needs
Where the child has a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on his or her ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities and this requires admission to the Academy requested. Children with a statement of special educational needs are placed in schools/Academies through the arrangements set out in the SEN Code of Practice and not through the admission criteria.

(iii) Local siblings
Those living within the Academy’s Area of Prime Responsibility and who have named the Academy as a first preference.

(iv) Geographical considerations
Those living within the Academy’s Area of Prime Responsibility.

(v) Geographical considerations
Those living outside the Academy’s Area of Prime Responsibility.

Late applications (including changes of preference) are dealt with only after the demand for places received by the closing date has been met. If places become available following the allocation of places for a school/Academy, the same criteria are applied to late applications and formal appeals, where the number of requests received still exceeds the number of places available.

Parents/carers who move to the area and/or wish their children to transfer to Yate Academy during the course of the year will be offered individual tours. These tours will not generally include visits to classrooms, in order to avoid interrupting lessons. This policy, we believe, is in the best interests of the students already at Yate Academy and utilises staff time effectively.
