I am really pleased that Woodlands primary school chose to become part of The Riding’s Federation Yate International Academy.
I have 3 children at Woodlands and was a parent governor there for 2 years and am happy that my role will now continue as part of Yate International Academy’s Local Governing Body.
I look forward to presenting the views of the parents at Woodlands at Local Governing Body level and sharing my knowledge and experience of the Woodlands Primary Phase.

I currently work for an enviromental maintenance company working on the motorways and main highways. I have two children currently attending Yate International Academy, one in Year 11 and one in Year 7. I became a Governor because I believe education is one of the most important aspects in a child’s life and each child should be given the opportunity to attain the best they can within their education. Before becoming a Governor at Yate International Academy, I was a Governor at Kings Court Primary School and am now looking forward to the new challenges that face the Academy. I am currently Governor for Internationalism and look forward to working on this area of Academy life with the staff who are also involved.
I have been a primary school teacher for 37 years and retired from the post of Headteacher of Frampton Cotterell C of E Primary two years ago. Throughout my teaching career I have always played a role on the school Governing Body.
Following my retirement I was fortunate to be given the opportunity to serve as a Community Governor at Woodlands Primary School. This was a post I thoroughly enjoyed as it enabled me to continue my involvement in school life. Sharing my knowledge and experience with both the Governing Body and pupils was very rewarding.
Being part of the first 4 – 19, All-Through Academy is both exciting and challenging. I believe it will provide greater opportunity and consistency of curriculum provision for all students. I have always considered a smooth transition from primary to secondary stage to be very important. Consequently, as a Governor to the Yate International Academy, I am looking forward to contributing to the success of this new primary-secondary amalgamation.
I am particularly proud to be a Local Governor of Yate International Academy as I have followed its progress over the past few years with great interest. I sincerely believe that it is firmly on the path to great success and that the rebuild will hasten this.
My experience of the Academy, coupled with this belief, is such that my son started at the Academy in September 2010. Our view, to date, is that it was a good decision for him to become a student at Yate International Academy.
My managerial career background has been wide ranging across local and multinational organisations and demonstrates that if you have the aspiration and drive you can reach your goals. On such a theme I believe every child has potential and should be encouraged to achieve ‘Success through Motivation, Knowledge and Skills’. As a Local Governor I have seen that this is a central belief of both the Federation and the Academy. I will strive to keep this belief firmly on the agenda.
